Mallory Vayle is an ordinary girl who would love to include things like "books about horses" as her hobbies. But when she moves into her new, spooky home, she quickly discovers that apparently she's also into "talking to dead people"…

…of which the strangest and silliest of them all is Maggoty Skull, a disembodied talking skull who might help, in return for: a really nice wig; maybe some lovely earrings; and lifting a curse that's kept him locked inside his own head for 500 years…

This is a silly book. I mean, it's GLORIOUSLY silly, full of jokes that made me snort out loud. It's also brilliantly illustrated, and does have some actual proper creepy villainy and characters to boot.

And Maggoty Skull is a fashion ICON.

If you like Lemony Snicket or Wednesday Addams, you'll love this!

Many thanks to Nosy Crow for sending me a copy of this!
