Maisie and her dad are back, and this time they're off to look for hidden treasure in Bootown!

…Or, in fact, Bhutan, as Maisie learns. And the treasure isn't good, proper treasure, but just some archaeological remains. Because Maisie's dad has a knack for taking the most exciting ideas and turning them into very, very boring reality. Bhutan is the Land of the Thunder Dragon, and he doesn't even want to go looking for them!

And not just that. Maisie's dad has an incredible power – he can stop time. And so can Maisie. But all he does is tell her not to use her power, to keep her promises, to be careful and responsible and boring

So when a mysterious woman appears and seems to know Dad, Maisie is intrigued. This woman is much more fun, and seems to have her own power. How does Maisie's dad know her? Why is he so bothered by her? And why does she want to come with them as they explore the caves within the Himalayan mountains?

Like Jack Jackman's first novel, Maisie vs Antartica, this is a well-crafted, fast-paced adventure that doesn't let its serious message get in the way of the action. Maisie – with her rebellious streak, mad hair and plot ideas for her own stories of Nyteshade The Ghost Pirate – is instantly likeable, and the twists and turns will keep you guessing.

It's a great second book in a cracking series. I love Maisie, I love her boring dad, and I love their adventures!

Thanks to Nosy Crow for sending me a copy of this book!
