When Mia discovers she has magical powers, everything changes. She's an Animagical, someone who can turn into different animals – a soaring eagle, a leaping leopard, a sneaky fox and more – and she is invited to join Wild Haven, a school set up to train them as they adapt to their new powers. But Mia hasn't worked out how to be an eagle yet, or a leopard, or a fox – instead, she keeps turning into a tiny squeaking mouse!

Every animagical has to find their true form. What will Mia's be, and will she discover it in time? For Wild Haven is more dangerous than she imagined. Something is happening in the hidden valley, and there is a mysterious history to uncover…

Animagicals – Mia’s Tiger is the first book in the new Animagicals series from Paula Harrison, and I think young readers will love it. The story is short, with an easy reading format and short chapters to pull you along, and there are beautiful illustrations from Erwin Madrid throughout. And who doesn't love a magic school story – especially one with gorgeous animals! The other characters are well set out, friends and enemies all, and there's just a hint of a deeper story to develop as the series goes on.

New readers will devour these stories of magic, animals, and finding your own way.

Many thanks to Nosy Crow for my copy of this book.
