Ista Flit can be anyone she wants.

In the town of Shelwich, almost everyone has a power that rises and falls with the Tide. Ista can change her form to look like anyone else, but uses her skills to steal, under the orders of a notorious thief who alone knows where her missing father might be. For Shelwich is a dangerous place – creatures from the sea feed on magic and have been seizing people at high tide, and Ista and her friends Nat and Ruby are soon pulled into the mystery. There are twists and turns, political shenanigans, shady characters and a variety of people who are not always who they seem to be. Can Ista solve the mystery? And can she survive to tell the tale…?

I really enjoyed this right from the start. The world of Shelwich is rich and imaginative, and well described – I could feel the sea mist rising through the twisting lanes as Ista and her friends follow their clues. The dialogue and characters are strong, the action flows fast, and there's a lot going on, with red herrings and false trails galore, and a few major surprises, too. Great fun!
