I’m a children’s author of sci-fi adventures Orion Lost, Adam-2, and I Am Wolf, the Dragon Storm series of chapter books, and picture books The Prince and the Witch and the Thief and the Bears and Inch and Grub, amongst others.

I live in Edinburgh with my wife and family, including our cat Maudie, who is yowling at me even though there is clearly food in her bowl, look, it’s right there, look.

… or you can get in touch via my agent Caroline Montgomery at Rupert Crew Ltd.

Ask the Author

Got a question? Here are some questions I'm often asked.

Q: “Where were you born?”
💁‍: I'm Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿, and I've lived in Scotland since I was a baby, mostly in or around Edinburgh, but I was actually born in a place called Lancashire in the north of England.
Q: “Did you always want to be an author?”
💁‍: Actually, I wanted to be three things – an author, a computer programmer, and an astronaut. I'm very lucky, I've managed two of those – perhaps one day I'll make it into space! 🚀
Q: “What was the first book you had published?”
💁‍: It was a picture book called The Prince and the Witch and the Thief and the Bears. I was very happy when it came out!
Q: “How many books have you had published?”
💁‍: Many! Some puzzle books, picture books, dragon books and science fiction books. Over twenty, now – you can see them here.
Q: “In which languages are your books translated?”
💁‍: Different books have gone to different parts of the world. But I've got books in English, French, German, Spanish, Swedish, Italian, Czech, Welsh, Chinese, Gaelic, and Dutch, so far.
Q: “Were you good at School?”
💁‍: Mostly! Except I talked too much and I daydreamed. I was always thinking up stories! 💭
Q: “What are you working on just now?”
💁‍: At the moment I'm working on a science-fiction trilogy called I Am Wolf. It's about giant mechanical animals with human crews – it's very exciting! 🐺
Q: “When were you born?”
💁‍: A long time ago – before the internet, but after dinosaurs… 🦖
Q: “When is your birthday?”
💁‍: Sorry, I only tell my friends that 😊. But I was born in April 🎂.
Q: “Is there anything else you can tell us?”
💁‍: We have a lovely cat named Maudie, and she helps me by sitting on my lap (and sometimes on my keyboard!)
